Carol Hama Chang

Carol is known for her spontaneous, realistic, impressionistic style in both watercolours and oils. She believes that to aquire that fresh, clean, natural look the image must be painted in a direct and bold way. Very often the camera does not report all the nuances seen by the human eye, but are clearly visable in her images. Carol's watercolours are mainly negatively painted over wet-in-wet while her oils are impressionistic and painted alla prima.

Biography
    Montreal born artist Carol Hama Chang is a well informed, self taught, watercolourist and oil painter and published children's book illustrator who has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. She began painting in acrylics and Japanese sumi-e brush painting in the early 1970's in Quebec and Ontairio while working full time as a civil engineer (BEng '71 Sir George Williams University, now Concordia University, Montreal). In 1991 Carol took a very early retirement from engineering to paint professionally and has never looked back. She has two daughters and resides with her husband in Edmonton, Alberta. Carol comes from a family heavily endowed in the arts.
