Raymond Chow
Vancouver born, Raymond Chow received a UBC degree in Art Education and taught briefly before embarking on a full career of 50 years as an artist. His drawings of Victorian homes and stores were sold across Canada in 13 major cities and then into the United States.
Some 30 years ago, he had a one man show in London, England and then travelled to Holland and France to paint there on location. He became well known for his beautiful paintings of women, children and coastal beachscapes done in his unique technique of Chinese brushwork used in the context of a Western Romantic Realism style.
He was inducted into the Knights of Saint Johns in 1995 in Vancouver. His son is a composer of dance and film music recognized in Korea. His daughter became Miss.Vancover Chinatown in 1989. Both children are married.
Raymond now lives in Richmond where he has converted a warehouse into an artist's studio loft where he paints and has composed over 500 original piano pieces. He collects antique autos and owns a 1961 Rolls Royce Bentley as well as autos from the 30's and 50's. He has been comissioned to piant many portraits of women and children in gardens, on beaches and on boats. He has painted the portraits of the Princess of Yugoslavia, Paul Anka, many TV stars as well as the children of the rock group Mike and the Mechanics. Raymond has painted portraits of over 300 society people of Vancouver and Richmond. He has also done advertisements for Purdy's Chocolates and B.C. Natural Gas, covers for Notary Magazine and the Vancouver Symphony as well as menus for Shady Island Restaurant and Umbertos.
